An Easy Hobby Challenge to Stretch Your Creativity

While visiting one of the bloggers who regularly links up on the Inspire Me Monday link-up I host, I discovered a fun hobby challenge for those wanting to practice photography. Thanks, Kym! I love photography, and I’ve learned how hobbies play an important role in helping us with our mental self-care.

Each week Lysha from A Camera and a Cookbook has an I Spy photo challenge. She posts her photos on Saturday (when the link-up opens), and gives the prompts for the following week. If you love a challenge, and want a reason to get outside and snap some photos, why not join the hobby challenge, too?

This week’s prompts happened to fit well with photos I’ve already taken, and I’ve already written down next week’s prompts so I can join again.

Rocky

I took advantage of some breaks in the rain and overcast skies and went on three amazing hikes last week. Both of them had plenty of rocks and boulders.

I took my favorite hike on Fourth of July with my husband. We hiked up the Gold Cord trail in the Independence Mine State Historical site in Hatcher Pass, Alaska. The steep, rocky trail leads to a tarn. We hiked around to the back side of the tarn, and it looked like an infinity pool. A valley lays between the far end of the tarn and the range of mountains in the background of the photo!

Bird

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you probably already know about my passion for birds and bird photography. Here’s one of my favorites from last week. As I hiked around Reflections Lake (near Wasilla, AK), I head birds chirping but couldn’t locate the nest. I finally realized the sounds came from inside a dead tree next to the trail. As I stood there watching, the mama bird came and stuffed food into the hole in the tree. I spent several hours observing and photographing the family of Downy Woodpeckers during the week.

Natural

This photograph gives you an idea of what ‘natural’ hair looks like on me! The humidity makes my natural curls stand up. Years ago, I decided to stop trying to cover my grey hairs and just go natural. Lucky me, grey hair has come into style.

Eira and I hiked up the Gold Mint Trail in Hatcher Pass.

Starts with M

The first time I came to Alaska, the summer I turned sixteen, I came away and never really remembered the mountains. Maybe because I spent the summer in Cooper Landing, or maybe because at 16 I didn’t pay much attention to the beautiful world around me. Now, I can’t get enough of Alaska’s beautiful mountains.

Your Choice

I snapped a photo of this little guy while out walking Eira. Dragonflies intrigue me.

  1. An amazing week of photos. Your rocky lake is so beautiful, love those woodys, and I wish I had your naturally curly hair! CarolG

  2. My son-in-law is always exploring new hobbies (and excels in all of them, it seems!). His latest is film photography. It’s been fun (and curious) to watch his excitement about using film, waiting to get it developed, etc, when I’m so glad I do not have to do that anymore! lol.
