We all know we need to take care of ourselves, but when a crisis comes out of left field, we often cut out life’s simple pleasures like art and creativity. But we shouldn’t. Check out today’s podcast for five hacks to take care of yourself artistically during a crisis.

Take Care of Yourself…Artistically?

I know, it sounds counterintuitive to think of anything artistic when you’re in the throes of upheaval, trauma, or crisis. Don’t get me wrong. Don’t run out and buy a paint set at the first sign of trouble. But don’t do what I did, either.

During my husband’s life-altering health crisis, I gave up on all creativity and threw myself into caretaking. While not a bad decision, it had its pitfalls. When in a crisis, you need to take care of yourself, too. I don’t mean spa visits, mani-pedis, or eating out at expensive restaurants.

Any time you find yourself in a prolonged crisis situation, take the time to plan ways to care for yourself. By doing so, you fuel yourself to keep on keeping on during hard times.

Today’s podcast has five hacks to help you take care of yourself during a crisis. Number five is my favorite!

Here’s me wearing my favorite mask..

Deaconess Hospital has specific patterns and instructions for face mask donations. It’s a good idea to check with the organization you’d like to donate to first. This website acts as a clearinghouse for donations for different organizations.

Dozens of donors have sent masks to the boarding school where I work, and I’ve loved the creativity and art that went into each mask.

I haven’t figured out yet how to make masks and crazy hair go well together, but hey, who really cares? I’m just happy to wear it so I can teach my students in person.

Come Back Next Week

Next week I’ll tell a little more of our cancer story and share hacks for taking care of yourself physically during a crisis.
