Help! My Husband Thinks the Word ‘Diet’ and Loses Weight!

Have you ever said this, or thought this? Because it’s true. Every winter Pedro gains five pounds, and within a week or two each spring he sheds them. Just like that. And every spring, I have to overcome discouragement because his journey to better health seems so much easier than mine.

It doesn’t help that men write popular books about weight loss and cheer women on as if we were all created the same. We weren’t. Until we understand the basic differences in our physiology, we’ll always feel jealous about how easy a man’s weight loss journey appears.

We can overcome our discouragement if we remember that every person has a different journey. No magic pill for weight loss and good health exists. Believe me, I’ve tried a few things in my younger years. Cabbage soup, anyone?

Once we get to know ourselves inside and out (mentally and physically), we’ll find it easier to start down the path to improved health. And, we can overcome discouragement with a few simple tricks. So, when someone tells you you must take 10,000 steps a day or eat only carbs or fats, or clean, or whole, or whatever, smile politely. While it may have worked for them, it may or may not work for you.

Your job? Get to know yourself and learn to experiment and enjoy the journey. You don’t have to battle discouragement. Learn to overcome it and half the battle will be won.
