Burned Out? Maybe You Need an Avocation!

Burned out people make more mistakes and struggle to stay on task. Ask any student on the fourth day of standardized testing. The bubbles start to float and the questions all run together. The urge to just fill in random bubbles feels like a viable option. As adults, we can fall into the same trap. Work becomes mindless and routine and our minds wander. We feel the need for a break, a vacation, a sabbatical, or a new job.

But what if all we really need to combat those burned out feelings is an avocation? In today’s podcast episode, you’ll learn the difference between vocation and avocation and why you need both. Who knows? Maybe one day you’ll have the opportunity to make money at your avocation. But until then, explore the world of hobbies and try to wean yourself away from mindless pursuits (which do little to refresh you).
