Most of us are born healthy, but life circumstances, choices, heredity, and family of origin can chip away at our well-being. These two hacks will help you start on your journey to better health.

We’re All Born Healthy

Ok, most of us are born healthy (only about 11% of babies are born pre-term, and I couldn’t find any stats for a percentage of healthy births). But what happens next? Depending on our family of origin, genetic makeup, life’s circumstances, choices, mental health, disease, and lifestyle, we can lose the good health we were born with. Once we lose it, we must embark on a journey to better health.

Men seem to have an easier time on their journey to better health if my husband is any indication. He can cut out one dessert a day (he typically eats sweets after lunch and supper) and lose ten pounds in a week. I’m not bitter. Really. Throw in the stress of motherhood, sleepless nights, household duties (sexy men know how to participate in all of these activities), and hormonal changes, and it could take a woman a year to lose ten pounds.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think anyone needs to look like a model (especially an air-brushed cover girl). But staying at a healthy weight and having a modicum of cardiovascular conditioning will help us live longer, avoid depression, learn faster, exercise our creativity, and lower our health care costs as we age. What’s not to like about that?

Everyone has a different journey to better health. In today’s podcast, I share my journey. My journey to better health took decades and had many detours and dead ends. Hopefully, my experience will help shorten your journey to better health!

  1. I feel like my journey to a healthy lifestyle is a constant battle–my wants pushing against my needs. However, I need to make healthy choices to offer the best for my body and my mind. I used Noom during the pandemic and loved the psychological aspect of the program. Thank you for the tips you shared.
