I’ve learned thing about self-care from hummingbirds. Sure, I could have learned these lessons elsewhere, but who wouldn’t want to learn from hummingbirds?
Have You Ever Learned from Hummingbirds?
I have a blogging friend who swears hummingbirds have it in for him. According to him, he’s gotten stabbed a time or two. I’ve never met a hummingbird intent on sword fighting with ME, but I’ve seen plenty take a stab at each other. Each summer I spend countless hours watching and photographing hummingbirds. During the winter (I live in the high desert of Arizona), I’ll travel to Tucson or Phoenix just so I can see my ‘pets.’
I don’t actually keep hummers as pets (that’s illegal). But I get great enjoyment from watching their antics and photographing their beauty. And the more I observe something, the more I want to learn about it. Which means I’ve spent a lot of time researching hummingbird behavior, migration, and nesting habits.
I’ve learned a lot from hummingbirds in the last ten years. In today’s podcast I’ll share the self-care hacks hummingbirds have taught me. Other than patience. It takes a lot of patience to get great photos of hummingbirds.

One thing is certain, and it’s that those little guys are not intimidated by anything—nor are they distracted from their one purpose!

I love how much we can learn just by watching nature and the things around us. Hummingbirds really are extraordinary creatures, aren’t they? I love how passionate you are about all the things that interest you!

<3 They say Nature is God's second book ;).
We so enjoy hummingbirds – their fierceness has surprised us – thank you for adding to my humming bird knowledge, especially about how they build their nests to expand as they grow! God has messages for us in everything!
He certainly does, doesn’t he!

oh I love these little guys! one kept coming to the porch window last week to watch me read. it was amazing.
Hummingbirds are so cute and interesting. And I knew they could cause some issues. But I never heard of being stabbed with one before. My husband’s aunt passed away a few weeks ago and my husband ministered at the graveside service. He had been talking about how much she loved hummingbirds and a few seconds later, one was hovering right behind him, over his shoulder. Everyone who knew her couldn’t believe it. 🙂
Hi Anita,
I love hummingbirds! I never knew they could be a challenge. Thanks for the photography tips, too!
Blessings,
Tammy
