Everyone should have a self-care routine (if we don’t take care of ourselves, who will?). Don’t forget artistic self-care!
Have You Checked Your Self-Care Routines Lately?
We all have self-care routines, even if we call them by other names. Quiet time, vegging out, hiking, reading, knitting, kayaking, or photography. Things you do to nurture yourself count as part of a healthy self-care routine. I’ve discovered over the years I tend to take care of myself in the same, comfortable ways day after day, week after week, month after month, and…you get the picture.
I’ve found it helpful to take an occasional inventory to ensure I take care of myself in a variety of ways. Ways that nurture my mental health, academic and artistic health, physical health, and spiritual health. Because I grew up thinking I had no artistic talent, I failed to nurture my artistic side. And we ALL have an artistic side. But maybe you’ve forgotten to nurture it.
In today’s podcast, I’ll share some tips for improving your photography. Photography is one of the easiest and most accessible art forms we can develop to enhance our artistic self-care.

My youngest daughter and her husband have a “creative” night once a week where they each work on their art projects side by side. Jeff and I have no such thing. 😉 But I love the idea.

What fun! We had a nerd night where we all sat around and read books. But I love the idea of having a creative night!

Thank you Anita for this timely post. God has been impressing upon me lately to look after myself more.
And only yesterday I started crafting again, something I haven’t done in ages.
And it was thoroughly rejuvenating! 😊

Yay! I’m so glad you’ve started crafting again! What kinds of crafting do you do? I enjoy quilting, cross-stitch, and sewing.

Anita, I love all the different areas that you put into self care. I had not thought of it that way but this does help so much. I do need to consider all of these mental health, academic and artistic health, physical health, and spiritual health as part of my self care routine. Most of these I do – it’s the academic and artistic health that I hadn’t considered as self care which makes so much sense. Sometimes when I am depleted and I do a study course I then feel energized or I did a sewing project the other day and I was elated afterwards! Thank you!
Ohhh! I love to sew, too! I haven’t done it for awhile (no little girls to make dresses for anymore 😉 ). Maybe this Christmas vacation I’ll work on a new quilt!

Blogging, crafting, cooking, and decorating for holidays are some of the creative outlets that energize me.

Yes, Yes, Yes! Creative expression is so important for our mental and overall health. I often color or doodle to relax and I used to really enjoy hand sewing things as a creative outlet and relaxation method. I have been thinking a lot lately about giving painting a try. It has been decades since I have attempted that type of art. I love this post! Thanks for sharing it and hosting your always inspiring link party.

Let’s see besides blogging for Jesus I enjoy — reading, some cooking, coloring, making printables, crafting such as wreaths and signs and such, making Graphics, and I can’t forget napping.
